Anders Lindgren @AndersLindgren recently posted two beautifully crafted long essays on Slideshare on the social media wave. Parts 1 & 2 take us through the evolution, the human waves, and Part 3 launches in to Social Media, all 124 slides of it!
124 slides is a mouthful by anyone's standards, but by applying his own new rules of social media - speed up, get to the point, use relevance, scan - you can pick out some real gems. Or at least I thought so.
He first dismissed the misconception that the tools ARE social media - we know but others don't, we have to say over and over again "it's about people connecting" - connecting with family, friends, colleagues, customers.'
He makes the point that people have instantly recognised its value because we herd and socialize and share. Now we can flock instantly.
And by slide 50 he asks the big questions for business - would you like to connect with your customers and would you like them to be your fans?
As they say the rest is history - it's all worth a flick through - the next 100 slides, for certain as the whole presentation is a work of art and craft and content.
Most notably, amongst the power of the postive messages, is his warning "don't mess with it unless you know what you're doing".
